Use this calculator to easily calculate how much energy and how much money an electrical appliance in your home uses each month. Simply enter the appliance’s power usage (in watts), the number of hours the appliance is used each day on average, the approximate number of days the appliance is used each month, and the amount you pay for each kilowatt hour (kWh) of electricity in cents. The calculator will determine how many kilowatt hours of electrical energy the appliance uses each month and the corresponding cost of operation in dollars. Use this calculator to systematically do an energy audit of your entire home. Discover which appliances use the most electricity and start making a plan to save energy and money.

Appliance Power Rating (W):
Use Per Day (h):
Use Per Month (days):
Electricity Cost (cents/kWh):
Total Energy Used Per Month (kWh):
Total Cost of Energy Per Month (dollars):

How does this calculator work? First, the power rating is divided by 1000 to convert to kilowatts. This is multiplied by the number of hours the appliance is used each day to arrive at kilowatt hours per day. Next, this result is multiplied by the number of days the appliance is used each month to calculate the total number of kilowatt hours consumed. Finally, the energy usage in kilowatt hours is multiplied by the cost per kilowatt hour in cents and divided by 100 to arrive at the total cost to run the appliance for a month in dollars.
